Creative Outlets That Helped Me Thrive as a New Mom

Becoming a mom turned my world upside down—in the most beautiful and chaotic ways. As much as I cherished the new role, I found myself wondering: Where did the creative version of me go? I wasn’t painting like I used to. I didn’t have hours to rearrange a room or sketch in a journal. But what I didn’t realize at the time was that creativity doesn’t disappear—it just evolves.

A Creative Soul, Even Before Motherhood

I’ve always been the creative one. As a kid, I doodled on my homework. As a teen, I rearranged my bedroom furniture monthly (hello, DIY Feng Shui). From a child all through college, I picked up a paintbrush and found calm through art. Over the last decade, painting took a back seat due to life’s curveballs—but I kept that creative spark alive through things like planning events, decorating spaces, and even designing my own wedding.

Navigating a New Identity as a Mom

Motherhood brought a new kind of identity shift. Suddenly, I was responsible for a tiny human—and it left little time for the version of me I’d always known. I wondered how my creative energy would fit into nap schedules, snack prep, and messy living rooms.

Finding New Creative Outlets

What I learned is that motherhood doesn’t erase creativity—it redirects it.

  • I poured energy into designing our daughter’s nursery, making it both functional and soothing.
  • I carved out a play area under the stairs, turning a small space into a world of imagination.
  • I organized her toys by zones, rotated books, and added tiny touches that made our home feel more joyful and intentional.
  • I started creating different themed sensory bins for her—seasonal setups, textures, and colors that keep her engaged while letting me express creativity in a hands-on, playful way.

Friends would ask, “How did you come up with that?” and it made me realize that this was my new form of art. Everyday creativity, infused into the rhythm of motherhood.

Why I Started This Blog

This blog is my creative outlet. It’s where I share the projects, systems, and small joys that help me feel like me again. Whether it’s organizing a playroom, throwing a themed birthday party, or simply creating moments of peace in a loud day—I want to help you find your spark, too.

If you’re a mom looking for creative ways to bring beauty and order into your everyday life, you’re in the right place. Motherhood and creativity can absolutely coexist—and sometimes, they’re better together.
