How to Plan a “Young, Wild & Three” Safari Birthday Party

For my daughter’s third birthday, I wanted a theme that felt bold, adventurous, and fun—just like her. We landed on a playful “Young, Wild & Three” safari party, filled with animal prints, jungle vibes, and a whole lot of creativity. Hosted at a local park with plenty of space to roam, this celebration was full of thoughtful details and hands-on fun. Here’s how we brought her third birthday to life!

The Theme: Young, Wild & Three

This theme felt perfect for our energetic and curious toddler. Inspired by safari animals and wild greenery, I envisioned neutral tones mixed with soft peaches, khaki, and lush greens. We leaned into natural textures and jungle-inspired touches to create a wild but cohesive party aesthetic. I found customizable graphics for the party theme from Etsy.

Party Location & Activities

We hosted the party at a local park with a playground, gazebo, and large grassy field—plenty of room for free play and interactive stations. Activities included:

  • Exploring the playground
  • A balloon artist creating jungle-themed animals
  • A DIY tattoo station
  • Inflatable safari animals for the kids to play with

These low-maintenance activities kept the kids entertained without requiring structured games.

Safari-Inspired Food Table

To keep the theme going, we created a themed food spread with playful, pun-filled names:

  • Lion’s Mane Veggies: A veggie tray with hummus in the shape of a lion
  • Elephant Treats: Nutter Butter cookies
  • Boars in a Blanket: Mini pigs in a blanket
  • Sweet and Sticky Cheetah Spots: PB&J sandwiches cut into circles
  • Swamp Cups: Individual seven-layer dips
  • Tiger Tails: Fruit skewers with blackberries and cantaloupe
  • Animal Dip: Funfetti dip served with animal crackers
  • Tiger Meat Wraps: Turkey and ham tortilla pinwheels

In addition to all the cupcakes, I ordered a cake from a local bakery that was covered in different colors of macaron crumbles. I found the cutest cake topper from Etsy to tie in the safari theme for the birthday girl.

Decor & Party Setup

The morning of the party, we arrived early to transform the gazebo area into a safari scene:

  • Set up a balloon garland on a faux wooden backdrop behind the food table
  • Displayed a welcome sign on a standing easel
  • Covered picnic tables with brown kraft paper for coloring and easy cleanup
  • Laid out greenery garland as a runner down the kids’ table
  • Created a kids’ table with cheetah print plates, giraffe napkins, and safari animal figurines
  • Set up the tattoo station near the party favor table

The colors, textures, and playful animal elements made everything feel cohesive and fun without being overly complicated or screaming tacky animal print.

Safari-Themed Party Favors

We put together DIY “safari crate” favor boxes using kraft cardboard boxes designed to look like wooden crates. Inside each box:

  • A small stuffed safari animal (cheetah, tiger, elephant, etc.)
  • Animal print sunglasses
  • Stickers

The kids were so excited to choose their animal, and they doubled as cute photo props too. Plus they had a balloon animal and a temporary tattoo to go home with as well!

Final Thoughts

Our “Young, Wild & Three” party was a hit with both the kids and adults. It struck the perfect balance of playful and polished, with minimal stress and maximum smiles. If you’re planning a third birthday party, this theme offers endless options for food, decor, and fun that’s easy to adapt and totally kid-approved.
